(Post 3) Why are there short films?
The point in a short film is to create something unique, its a chance for directors/production teams, to make small budget films, that still involve a lot of quality.for example young directors wont have the chance to make high budget, blockbuster movies so they can use short films to show off their work to the film community. Same goes for actors, hence why its always un known directors and actors, because they're people that are trying to make it big.
Often you see short films awards as well, for example at the Oscars, so they really don't go unnoticed! Also there's the platforms of social media, like you tube, blogs and things like reddit where you can upload anything, at anytime.(with the hope of getting lots of views of course).
I believe short films have only really been a major influence in cinema since the turn of the century, as previously the beginning of the digital era sort of realistically introduces and created real blockbusters from the 70s and onwards. However, before that time short films may have been the norm a long time ago such as in the silent era and the beginning and progression of classical hollywood as due to the technology they had on hand at the time, they physically couldnt make massive or very long films. However, with regards to who watches them, well, it can be anyone!
