(Post 6) Final idea pitch

What would my pitch be? i assume it would go along the lines of this;-

  • -The genre of film and apply Daniel Chandler's conventions of content
  • -Narrative techniques to be used. A major focus here on ALL the techniques on large poster in M26
  • -Applying Blulmer and Katz uses and gratifications theory
  • -Characters and subsequently performance/expression and movement
  • -Settings
  • -lighting techniques
  • -Sound techniques
  • -Editing techniques
  • -Research you have done into existing short films and how that has affected your decision making process so far.
  • -Any inspiration you've taken from existing products
  • -Anything you desperately want to avoid
  • -How your work is going to be creative and original

To begin with, the main genre my short revolves around would have to be action. If you wonder maybe, why? well if you clearly study Daniel Chandlers theory of conventions and content, you will realise it matches up perfectly; with my plans of fast moving takes, lots of different situations happening at once and my idea of certain soundtracks in the film once you watch it, you will realise it is most certainly an action based film.

narrative is an extremely important part within films, everything revolves around it so people definitely have to understand what it is or how it works, therefore within my narrative, it wont really follow a linear narrative, instead it follows a montage type sequence, with in the main characters, speaking over events and people doing different activities, that have actually already happened. which would then lead nicely to the point that my film will also be a restricted narrative viewpoint, with the audience only knowing things that the characters know or actually they know less, and are seeing the situation as its told.

furthermore whilst applying separate techniques, if i were to apply my film to blulmer and Katz's uses and gratifications theory, i am definitely making my film to entertain and divert, it doesn't really teach much, other than possibly teamwork and leadership, but however i will aim to entertain the audience and also divert them looking into my made up world that i'm creating.

My actors are going to have to understand the characters they are given thoroughly, for instance each character has certain qualities and aspects about them (as of it being a heist film) and each character brings a certain quality to the team, whether it be your stereotypical hacker or leader and maybe even a driver. This means that the characters when they have understood each other, their expressions and movement will have to match each of their personalities.

For my Micro-elements, my setting with constantly switch between certain locations for when i switch to show each character. However i think realistically my main location for the character speaking will be in some sort of pub, as the characters are having secret discussions. My sound will mainly be diegetic however, i will have certain soundtracks playing leaving that non diegetic, it will involve a bit of dialogue but not dialogue heavy. Also, i could consider the use of Foley, to create certain sound effects that maybe i cant physically get, however i would have to find somewhere to actually access to record the sounds. to keep with the genre of action my editing therefore will have to consist of a fast paced sequence, to keep the flow moving of my quick and snappy cinematography. Therefore types of techniques i may have to stick to will be things like match on action, whip pans, tracking shots and also quick snaps to switch scenes, including invisible cuts.

My work hopefully will be creative and original in ways that at times contrast types of cinematography and editing techniques, however i will make sure i have possibly more of one angle or cut o really emphasise my stamp on the film. It will feature settings and also performances hopefully from people that no one else had ever seen before and my film will be the first time. Ad`    ditionally, it should be a slightly different narrative to heist movies and big blockbusters, however i will be taking some inspiration from a certain film, however ONLY inspiration, it wont even be close to it.
Furthermore, with ideas of things i probably want to avoid, i definitely dont want to include copying of ideas that already exist as i want it to be original. Also i dont want any confusion in my film, i need it to be clear and easy to follow so that the audience stay's engaged and entertained.

This was my idea pitch, questions?
